Oppo launches new R1C smartphone with sapphire glass back in China

After launching the super-slim R5 and the flagship N3, Oppo has launched yet another chic handset in China, called R1C.

First reported by GizmoChina, the Oppo R1C features a shiny sapphire glass panel, which makes the back almost mirror-like. It has a metal frame on the sides, which completes the premium look.

According to the news site, the Oppo R1C features a 5-inch, 720p display and will be powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of built-in storage, which can be further boosted up to 128GB with an external memory card. For taking photos and videos, there’s a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera. The rear camera uses Sony IMX214 lens, with a f/2.0 aperture. Unlike the N1 and N3, there’s no rotating or motarised-camera feature in this Oppo phone.

Compared to the R5, the Oppo R1C is slightly thicker at 6.85mm. The R1C comes with dual-SIM support and can also connect to 4G networks. It packs a 2420mAh battery and runs on the Android 4.4-based Color OS 2.0.1 operating system. The R1C is priced at 2499 Chinese Yuan that translates to around Rs 25,000 in India. This would make it slightly cheaper than the R5, which is currently priced at Rs 29,999.

Oppo R5: At 4.85 mm, this phone is so thin that it can’t have a 3.5mm jack

Oppo has launched its N3 and R5 smartphones today at a global launch event in Singapore. The N3, its latest addition to the N series which features an automated swivel camera. On the other hand, the R5 is the world’s thinnest smartphone at 4.85 mm. The Oppo R5 has surpassed the Gionee Elife S5.1 smartphone which was listed in Guinness Book of World Records as the thinnest smartphone in the world at 5.1 mm. The R5 is so thin that it doesn’t have a regular 3.5 mm headphone port. Users will have to rely on their Bluetooth earphones or connect via an adapter.

 The N3 is priced at US$ 649 and the R5 is priced at US$ 499 respectively. Both the smartphones will be available in the India market soon. Oppo also showcased the PM-3 Planar Magnetic headphones at the event.

 The N3, features a 16 megapixel rotating camera. It has the ability to rotate 206 degrees and is capable of taking 64 megapixel high resolution images using its free-stop and multi-angle shooting features. The OPPO N3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU with 32G ROM and 2G RAM and a 5.5-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

 The phone includes OPPO’s VOOC mini rapid charging system and claims a 30-minute charge will provide 75% battery, and a five-minute charge allows for a two-hour call.

 The R5 runs on an octa-core Qualcomm MSM8939, and comes with a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen. It comes PI 2.0 Plus Flash Shot technology which delivers 50MP high-definition picture clarity. Built with first-grade steel and designed with a micro-arc frame, the R5 also comes with the VOOC mini rapid charging system.

Oppo N3 specs leak: may come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 16MP rotating camera and fingerprint scanner

Oppo N3, the latest smartphone from Oppo is expected to be launched on October 29th. But some Chinese mobile stores have already started accepting pre-orders for it. In order to get more buyers, certain stores may have leaked the specs on the Oppo N3.

According to the advertising boards outside the stores, the Oppo N3 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch full HD display and a rotating 16MP camera. If indeed this is true, then the Find 7 will still remain the only Oppo smartphone with a 2560 x 1440 display.

Another detail that is seen in the chart above is the Chinese pricing at 4,928 Chinese Yuan which comes to roughly Rs 43,000.

The other information in Mandarin reads that the Oppo N3 will be the first camera to come with a motorised camera that can rotate 206-degrees such that it can work as both a front and a rear camera. This is similar to what we have seen earlier with the Oppo N1, only difference being that was a camera which had to be manually rotated.

In another photograph of the camera module released by Oppo, one can see an oval shaped design just below the branding, which is rumoured to be a fingerprint scanner on the Oppo N3. Unlike the iPhone 6 or the Samsung Galaxy S5, Oppo has not kept the finger print scanner on the home button.

OPPO N3 leaked photos reveal an even stranger camera

The OPPO N1, much famed for its CyanogenMod ties, will soon have a follow-up. While many aspects about this so-called OPPO N3 remain shrouded in mystery, one thing is clear based on these leaked press materials: it will have a rotating camera that is even stranger than its predecessor.

The rotating camera on the OPPO N1 is both economic and somewhat inspired. After all, why waste resources on two uneven cameras when you can have one that functions as both? Granted, you won't be able to implement fancy features such as taking a photo from both cameras at the same time, embedding the smaller "selfie" image inside the bigger one, like one of Sony's newest camera apps, but that use case might not be too common to warrant it in this case.

The fact that the OPPO N3 would also have a rotating camera isn't actually the most interesting aspect of the smartphone. What is even more peculiar is the form of the device itself. The photo seems to suggest that the N3 will be considerably thinner than the N1 before it. But in order to still accommodate a high sensor camera, OPPO had to put a thicker cyliner on top. The best way to describe the overall design is that it looks like half of a flip phone.

Not much else is known abut the OPPO N3 aside from this external appearance. Questions like whether it will be as gigantic as the OPPO N1 was or whether it will still offer some easy way to get CyanogenMod installed on it remain unanswered. We might not have to wait that long for the answers, though, as OPPO teased a press event in October to reveal its "One More Step" forward.
