Dual-screen YotaPhone to be sold on Flipkart for Rs 23,499

Last year we had seen the launch of a one-of-a-kind phone from Russian modem developer Yota Devices called the YotaPhone. The unique thing about it was that it sported a 4.3-inch HD LCD screen in the front and an e-ink display on the rear side. This phone has finally landed on Indian shores for a price point of Rs 23,499 and will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.
The 4.3-inch smartphone sports a full colour 720 x 1,280 LCD screen on one side and a 4.3-inch 640 x 360 pixel e-ink display on the other side. The device will essentially double up as a phone and an e-reader, all at the same time. The YotaPhone packs a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and is powered by an 1,800mAh battery.
Apart from reading, the e-ink display on the rear side of the YotaPhone can be used to see notifications such as messages, calls, reminders, appointments, weather and so on, despite the smartphone display it self being off.
On the camera front, the YotaPhone comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 1MP front camera. In terms of connectivity, you have 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. The phone comes with proprietary software that lets the two screens communicate with each other.
The device has been touted by the company as an “always on, low power display” one, specifically because the e-ink pulls in barely any power to display static images. The phone allows for 50 hours of reading time using the e-ink screen and can be used to display nearly everything you can see on the main screen, cutting down on the amount of battery it consumes.
